What it Means to Be Human...in the News

Now that we have a better idea of what it means to be human, we are looking for evidence in currents events of past and present.


What will the kids find? What a great introduction for the last unit of inquiry for fifth grade, "How we Express Ourselves, "where we will delve into media as a form of communication.

Humans have the right to voice opinions.

Zion: Saving the Nation's Bats
People want to save the world's animals

Jake: Autumn Prom
One person can make a difference in helping others feels good about themselves (prom for down-sydrome)

Tommy: Serenghetti National Park
People can come together to take action- habitat loss

Caeden- "Under the Sea"
Scientists finding new life- Humans want to discover

Eduardo- "New Chapter"
People trying to find technology for the future-  better our world

Lylah-"A Book About Bullies"
People all have emotions and reason for what they do

Taylor- "An American Family"
Every family goes through ups and downs

Samerial- "Creating for New Dreams for South Africans"
Some people want to make a difference for those that do not have as many opportunities (school in Africa)

Shnutez- "Meals on Wheels"
Make a Difference- Organizations come together for different causes

Ben- "Learning Chinese"
People can make an impact by teaching others and that impact can lead to new discoveries

Nicolas- "Listen Up"
People want to spread information that can help others

Rachael- "Found- 6 lost frogs"
Humans want to discover

Miyanna-"All About the Brain"
People want to learn and people want to teach others what they have learned

Jasmine- "More Time for School"
Kids want to learn and have fun

Caroline- "Can you Hear Me Now"
Humans want to stay healthy and safe

Sophie- "Women with No Arms Gets Blackbelt"
Some humans don't let obstacles get in their way to achieve their goals.

Katherine- "Meals on Wheels"
People want to help educate and make kids better learners
