What is Exhibition Continued...

Since the kids are confused about what is exhibition, we decided to talk about what it is in class before even beginning to dissect the theme. We already hosted a parent Exhibition meeting, so why not hold one for the kids. Based on our discussion, this is a little of what we came up with together for what it would look like in my class.

  • It is not a project, but a celebration of who've they become as 5th graders at Mark Twain!
  • It is inquiry into "who you are" and what you are passionate about!
  • The inquiry process has each class going in different directions.
  • There is no lesson plan and we never know what is going to happen or what we will accomplish on a certain day.
  • It is not a competition amongst classes but it looks different in every class.
  • It is student driven...one child put in nicely, "Mrs. Hicks you're the tour guide."
  • It is 99% completed at school.
  • It is not about raising money, but about raising awareness.
  • It is not for a grade: some aspects like reflections may be taken up for Language Arts Grades. Some group presentations might be taken up for Social Studies Grades.

The children think that they would like to work on Exhibition as a class, instead of breaking up into groups that work on different topics, issues, or actions. I told them that we would wait and see once they find out a little more about who they are!
