Health Descriptor

Here is what the children came up for each component of the health descriptor.  Each group took a descriptor, wrote what they thought, and then came up with any issues related to the health.  Some group discussions sparked more class discussions, while others did a very thorough job that left nothing to add :)


Spiritual Health-


Group Discussion

believe in culture

(def)- spiritual- relating to or consisting of spirit
def (spirit)- force within a human being thought to give a human being life, energy

Class Discussion
believing in yourself
What do people do to have spiritual health?
worship, being true to yourself, celebrate religion and abide by it rules,
What do people around the world to have spiritual health?
eat kinds of foods, practice religion, dress meditate


Mental Health: 


Group Discussion
(inner mind and having a mental disorder)
good knowledge, really know who you are (inner mind),
Issues: mental disabilities, depression (bullying lead to depression that leads to suicide)

Physical Health


Group Discussion
structure of your body, treating body right, helping body, staying health and fit
Issues: disease (cancer, diabetes), obesity, malnourished, eating unhealthy food, polio, anorexia, bulimia, epilepsy, arthritis
Exercise is important!


Personal Health: 


Group Discussion
relating to personal health, being of sound mind, body, spirit
when you don't doubt yourself, personal issues that are unhealthy, being confident about yourself, scar or no arm
Issues: self-conscious, not happy with yourself, some people are bullied for their personality and beliefs and values,  being unsure what to do, believing in what is right.


Social Health:


Group Discussion
cooperative relationships with people,
find connections and find relationships, sharing with friends and being nice, being unique/yourself, being nice to others, social people can help other people, people who are not social are left with, express feelings, has to do with discrimination, first impressions are a big part, growing in a community, assimilating and having a place in a group or community
Issues: Bullying, people with disabilities having social issues, discrimination
